IrDA Remote Control (IrRC) will allow you to control your media player/center with TV-style Remote Control Unit via standard IrDA (infrared) port, so no additional hardware is required.
Tips and Tricks
As noticed earlier, IrDA data transfer protocol significantly differs from the signal types and formats emitted by TV Remote Control Units. So, there are some tips and tricks for IrDA Remote Control usage.
Aim your Remote Control Unit (RCU) at IrDA receiver directly. If the IrDA receiver is located on side or rear panel of your computer you can use a small mirror.
Some RCUs have no full scale ability for repeating commands of pushed buttons. In that case, you should emulate command repeats manually by multiple separate key presses.
Try to hide IrDA receiver from outside infrared light sources (ex: direct sunlight), otherwise the operation distance will be lower.
Stop your player while training IrDA Remote Control buttons. Higher available CPU resource for the button training increases the training quality.If you find some buttons have poor recognition, try to retrain them.It you find button recognition mistakes, try to use another button of the same Remote Control Unit
